In Like a Lion Out Like A Lamb!
Share
Have you enjoyed the first couple of weeks of 2021?
I think she came in like a lion!! Isn’t that a saying that goes along with March? In like a lion…out like a lamb? Anyway, maybe January will go out like a lamb…fingers crossed.
For my mental balance, I have avoided a lot of national news and political posts on social media. Our grandsons have kept me busy, and playing with them in the snow is so much better than listening to the news!
I saw a meme that reads “just keep scrolling, just keep scrolling”. That is exactly what I did because I found myself so caught up in what the news was reporting or what a friend was posting that I found it hard to remember to do the things I enjoyed. So my motto has become ‘just keep scrolling’.

There are a few French Design and French Style groups with content and pictures that have helped bring my smile back. Thankfully, the moderators have kept the political view points at a minimum.
French Country, Live French Live Well and French Chic are a couple of the FB groups. They have everything from food to decor to fashion!
Now, on to some really BIG news for my family….our daughter is expecting again and the recent ultra sound confirmed that she is having a GIRL!!
This GiGi is already designing clothes for this sweet little one that is due to arrive in July! We have grandsons that we love very much and I have made shirts and masks for them, but sewing for little boys is not the same as sewing for little girls.
I can see pink and purple…tulle and lace, cotton and faux fur…bows and ribbons and ruffles!! Maybe a line of little girl dresses? I better get my sketch book out and knock out some ideas.
But first, my beautiful daughter is getting a new custom made maternity dress. Something lovely for my first born. She has given me ideas and I’m working on a design this week.

Recasting! I left you all with starting a food journal and the next step is recasting. As I mentioned before, the food journal was very informative! For me, I made the Mimosa Soup from her book, French Women Don't Get Fat. I ate only the soup over a weekend. I ate 1 cup at a time every 3 hours for 2 days, and ended the 2nd day with a meal of 6 oz of meat (protein), 2 veggies and a fruit.
First, let me say the soup is very satisfying. Next time, though, I will use a food processor. I only mashed the cooked veggies and the more fibrous vegetables are hard to eat in that form. Other than that, I actually loved the taste and how full I actually felt after each bowl. The author, Mireille Guiliano gives credit to her doctor for the recipe and the results. By the end of the second day I felt better. I had been having gastrointestinal issues from my diet choices. But not only food choices, but where and how I ate my meals. I've learned so much about the ceremony of a meal. Preparing great food doesn't have to be complicated and eating the food should be the same. I noticed that if I threw together a quick bite to eat and sat in front of the TV or stood around in the kitchen I might not even remember eating. I especially wouldn't remember what I ate. I have a made a conscious effort to eat at our kitchen or dining table, even if I am only having a light lunch of cheese and fruit. In doing so, I noticed the taste of my food more, and I was more aware of feeling satisfied.
Let me hear from you if you have kept or plan to keep a food journal. What were your experiences? What was or is your purpose of keeping track of your daily food intake?
Next time I'll get more into other fabulous habits of French Women that I think we will all enjoy and ideas to help us slow down and soak up every ray of sunshine in each new day!
Love,
GIGI
